A
BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE SYRIAN
ORTHODOX CHURCH’S
PRESENT SITUATION IN AUSTRALIA
Although the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch
is an old and mature church in its tradition and origin, yet when it
comes to the Syrian Orthodox Church members in Australia, this church
is considered amongst the young in age, deriving strength from its old
tradition and origin.
Some of the Syrian Orthodox
Church's Community members commenced their migration to Australia early 60s. Those migrants
first settled in Sydney and Melbourne, in the Eastern side of Australia.
The migration continued, and
during the 70s some of the Syrian Orthodox Church Community members
arrived to Australia,
and took Perth, the capital of Western Australia, as their new homeland.
In an attempt to formulate their
existence as a community, and in the year 1970, those first migrants
established their first association in Sydney
in the name of ST. EPHRAIM THE SYRIAN'S ASSOCIATION. This was followed,
and in the year 1972 by the establishment of another association in
Melbourne, and also in
the name of our Great Saint ST. EPHRAIM THE SYRIAN'S ASSOCIATION.
