IGNATIUS ABDALLA THE SECOND PATRIARCH OF ANTIOCH AND ALL THE EAST
1906 - 1915
Extracts from H.H.'s Biography
H.H. was born in Zedal, Syria
in the year 1833.
H.H. completed his studies in
Edessa, after completing his studies he became a monk and priest.
On 24th October 1855 visited
India accompanying Mor Osthatheos AbdelNour,
Bishop of Jerusalem.
This visit lasted for two years.
In the year 1872 was ordained
a Bishop to Jerusalem
in the name of Gregorious. His Office was at St. Mark's Monastery.
In the year 1875-1877 accompanied
Patriarch Boutros the Fourth (1872-1894+) during H.H.'s historical visit
to Britain, Egypt
and India.
H.H. served in Syria,
Amed (Dyarbaker) Parishes.
H.H. exerted all his efforts
to ensure that Za'faran Monastery has its own printing press.
On 18th August 1906 he was enthroned
as a Patriarch of Antioch
in the name of Moran Mor Ignatius Abdallah the Second.
In the year 1908 left by sea
to London
accompanied by Monks Youhanna Ababji, Elias Koro (who became Bishops
after). During this visit H.H. met Emperor Edward the Seventh who presented
H.H. with a Golden Medal in appreciation to H.H.'s visit. H.H. also
met the British Minister for Indian Affairs, who delivered to H.H. the
instructions given by the British Government in London
to the British Authorities in India.
In October 1909 H.H. arrived
Malabar, India,
and visited the Kings of Travancore and Coshin. Both Kings presented
H.H. with Golden Medals in appreciation to H.H.'s visit.
H.H. stayed in India
for two years to accomplish the work required for the prosperty of Church
there.
In the year 1911 returned back
to Homs-Syria. Then left to Jerusalem
where he departed this earthy world during the night of 26th November
1916. H.H.'s body was barried at St. Mark's Monastery, Jerusalem.
H.H. was known of his patience,
equanimity and serenity.
